Intern with Us

Experience the Rhythm of Real Canadian Farm Life — Intern at The Cheesiry

There’s a place on the Alberta prairie where the golden light stretches endlessly, where sheep graze beneath wide open skies, and where the scent of milk warming in the vat drifts through the barn — ready to be transformed into something beautiful.

Welcome to The Cheesiry, our family farm nestled near Kitscoty, Alberta, surrounded by fields that sway like the sea and a horizon that seems to go on forever.

We’re opening our gates once again to interns and agricultural students who wish to experience the heart of Canadian farm life — and all the hard work, laughter, and unexpected beauty that comes with it.

A young woman in a red and black plaid shirt holding a bouquet of pink, white, and purple flowers, standing indoors near a chalkboard and rusted metal bars.
A young woman with blonde hair, wearing sunglasses, a blue jacket with a space-themed design, and shorts, is sitting on the grass outdoors next to a tan and white dog with pointy ears, on a sunny day. She is smiling and looking at the camera. There are painting supplies and paper nearby, with a colorful painting on an easel in the background.

What You’ll Learn

Each season brings its own lessons, and each corner of our farm tells a different story. Depending on the time of year, you might find yourself:

Stirring warm sheep’s milk in our little creamery, learning the art of Tuscan-inspired cheesemaking.

Helping care for our flock of sheep — from bottle-feeding lambs to moving them through rotational pastures.

getting your hands dirty in the cut flower gardens, where beauty and biodiversity intertwine in equal measure.

Working alongside us at the Maizex Corn Maze, our agritainment project that welcomes families each fall.

If you’d like to venture to learn other parts of our farm you can: Learn about cattle, grazing management, farm equipment, and butchery — gaining an appreciation for where food truly comes from.

We’ll also make sure you experience a few local activities — a dip in a prairie lake, a trip to nearby Lloydminster (the city on the border of Alberta and Saskatchewan), or perhaps an evening campfire under a sky filled with stars.

Living on the Farm

Interns stay a minimum of one month (ideally two months), from May 1 to October 15. Why 2 months? When we are in the midst of busy season, it is difficult to getaway and visit places. The best experience is 2 months so we can show you more of Canadian life and time for fun.

Accommodation and food is provided — either in our farmhouse or in a cozy camper on-site. We are a family of 4 and omnivore. We live and work closely together, sharing meals, stories, and the daily rhythm of the land.

We’re located about 2.5 hours east of Edmonton, and we’re happy to arrange pickup from Edmonton International Airport for arriving interns.

A Global Exchange of Ideas

Over the years, we’ve welcomed students and volunteers from all over the world through WWOOF, SOIL, IAEA, and many students from Université LaSalle Beauvais (France).

I’m comfortable with the language basics of Ukrainian, French, and Italian, and always delighted to share and learn across languages, cultures, and traditions.
